Erez Uzan

My work starts from the urge to describe and present the reality in which I live.
Through my paintings I capture and reflect on social events, daily habits and objects that echo fragments of the Israeli culture. Local stories and materials form a landscape of life in a rural area, at contemporary times.
By emphasizing material elements, such as texture, creating rough lines, and using dense painting surfaces, even grotesque at times, contributes to the general idea of the painting, as the painting technique echoes the dense and chaotic reality.
Working with oil on canvas enables me freedom, as a method of constant search within the painting language, and is a tool that allows dedication to the medium’s traditional practice, while simultaneously searching for new forms in contemporary painting.
